I just "added you to my circle" and "subscribed" to you. :D
Are you going to copy all your LJ entries over here? It's easy. You will have to tell Dreamwidth what your LJ password is so that the entries there will mirror over here. Go to the Account Settings area here and click on the Other Sites tab. The rest is fairly self-explanatory.
The main thing I miss here is the lack of icons but I'm not ready to fork out more money for a paid account here.
I checked my profile page, and yours, and your name isn't showing up for some reason. I just 'granted you access'.. and now your name is there. I'm not at all sure what i'm doing. It's all a bit baffling to be honest. Do i also 'subscribe' to your name too? If so, then why? Is that on my profile page or yours? And what's a 'reading page' *confused*
I'm not sure yet about copying my entries. I think maybe i'll get a bit more familiar with the place first.. if i ever do. I really can't see me visiting here that much.
Sorry it's taken me so long to get back. It's been that kind of day. :/
You weren't showing up in my grant and subscribe page either, oddly enough. I just re-granted and re-subscribed so maybe it will work now. I don't know why it didn't before.
I don't know why one needs to "grant" and "subscribe" here but that's the way it works. Yes, you have to do both for everyone you add. I think they made it unnecessarily complicated.
A "reading page" is where you see all the recent entries of those journals you've subscribed to, whether they be individuals or comms. Go here: http://www.dreamwidth.org/manage/settings/ but be sure you're already logged into Dreamwidth first. Look at the top of the screen and one of the tabs will be Read. That's where you can read every all journals in your reading list (aka "friends list").
I wish it would let me read just individual journals there. I'd like to be able to read community postings in another filter but that's not working correctly for me. It seems to be all or nothing. Maybe you will have better luck. :)
It seems the filters still aren't working properly and that's the reason I don't use this service much. Perhaps filters work when one has a paid subscription but I'm not going to fork over the money to find out. *sigh* I don't spend much time here and, like you, I doubt I will unless LJ goes belly up.
Hey, don't worry about the time. I'm one of the worst for getting back to people. I really don't know where the day goes.
You're added now. I got notifications for both :) I think i've only granted people access, i haven't subscribed at any of the journals.. but then, neither have they..hmm!
So a reading page is more or less like your 'friends page'.. On LJ i get comm posts and friends' posts all on the same page... do you get them separately then? I'm getting notification of 'grants' and comments. I assume i get them for posts too?
There's no way i'm forking out any money here. I really can't see me being here that often. LJ is my 'home'.. ;)
Sorry to hit you with all these questions. I think i need to study the faq a bit more ;)
I think granting permission lets people read your journal, perhaps the friends-only posts. And subscribing puts them in your reading filter. I think. Don't quote me on that. :D
I set up filters on LJ to just read personal journals in one and comms in another filter. I tend to read only personal journals when I'm strapped for time so splitting them up like that is the only way I can keep up sometimes.
At any rate, that's what I'm accustomed to and I can't seem to do it here which lessens my enjoyment of this place. Oh, well...
I don't know if you have to set up post notifications differently or not. I know that I get notified for the grants and subscriptions, as well as post notifications.
No need to apologize. I'm stumbling around here too. We will have to help each other figure this out. :D
There's a special set of FAQ's for people coming to DW from LJ here. It explains some things quite well, but I never have got the hang of their "Subscribes to", "Gives access to" etc etc! :)
Jumping in here. I just set up my account today and that threw me at first, too. But "Subscribe to" is the same as adding someone as a friend. "Grant access" is what you do to give them access to your journal and what they do to give you access to theirs. It's like friending and friending back.
I love that they have a FAQ for people from LJ. I wonder if they've always had that or if they're aware of how many people are defecting. ;>)
I have finally set up an account, too. This place is nice. So similar to LJ that it's easy to set up. I need to import my LJ. There's NO way I want to type all my user info again.
BTW, I saw all the questions you asked in comments above. The FAQ section here is awesome. I read at least half of it before I even set up my account. Especially helpful in the section dedicated to people who have LJs.
I haven't really spent that much time here apart from just setting up the account as you can see, so i'm still not really familiar with the place. I'm still hoping that LJ will get to back to normal soon.
In the meantime i'll add ( or subscibe or grant or whatever) you :)
I really don't know what I'm going to do here. I don't want to simply repeat posts I do at LJ since all my friends here are also LJ friends. And neither you nor I need more to keep up with!!! Thanks to my Internet problems and LJ being messed up so frequently, I am days behind at all my communities. *sigh*

That's probably because they're based on the LJ code. The people who run it are ex LJ staff.
